Even a down-home, simple-is-better kind of cook like me occasionally wants elegant, show-offy food in a beautiful, somewhat formal and/or chic environment. At such times I look for extravagant, edge-pushing combinations, presentation, and technique, yet --- and this is always paramount --- full of flavor and, concomitantly, ultra-fresh. ? I am so glad that a fellow food person steered me to May Street Market for a special meal with my nephew while in Chicago.?
I especially loved an Asian-influenced soup, with a sparklingly fresh saute of vegetables and woodsy, earthy mushrooms on the side, to be stirred in as one wished, while my nephew flipped over the parsley spatzele which bedded his venison. He mentions "that dinner" every time we talk, and always with a tone of wonder.

I have been thinking about the great party we had at May Street Market last Thursday. The food was outstanding and everybody had a wonderful time. We have all put May Street high on our list of favorite restaurants and I have spent all this week recommending the restaurant to our friends. (and trying to track down the wines). I know how much work it takes to have a great meal for 12 people and I appreciate all of your work, before and during the party. Our thanks to Jeff also. He was great.

I was in about ten days ago (Redeker party) and we had such a wonderful time. Food, atmosphere, presentation, gracious service (Jeff does an enthusiastic job of explaining the menu)- all perfect. Two days later I had tracked down the Little Darling cheese used in one of the salads at the Green City Market- yum! We will be back soon, since two out of two dining experiences have been the two best we've had in recent memory. Thank you.

Thank you for the hospitality you showed our family at a recent
dinner visit. It began with Ms. Randolph, who noticed us peering at
the menu in the window. We were debating whether or not our kids
(ages 4 and 3) would go for it when Ms. Randolph stepped outside and
offered to make child size portions. That got us in the door.
The hospitality continued with our waiter. He engaged the kids,
calling them by name and plying them with cherries and coloring books.
His kindness really kept them interested in sitting at the table.
Finally, we were delighted that Chef Cheswick came out from a busy
kitchen to greet us.
All in all, your hospitality allowed us to enjoy a 75 minute fine
dining experience -- with our kids!
